This site has been around for awhile, but, just recently, it started to recieve a slew of original content (see interview with Jack Douglas) as well as constant updates by Wiki nerds. Test Your Hearing Online!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Check out this website. It takes the Equal-loudness contour concept and places it into a friendly flash application for you to test yourself.

If you’d like to read up on the Equal-loudness contour, check out it’s Wikipedia page here.

How Good’s Your SRC?

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Have you ever wondered how good the sample rate conversion for your specific DAW?

If you have, check out this site. The fine people over at Infinite Wave have done a lot of extensive testing on all the major DAWs as well as programs like iZotope RX.

On the website, you’ll be able to see how good the sample rate conversion from 96kHz to 44.1kHz is for the program you select. You can choose from a few different options: sweep, 1kHz tone, passband, transition, phase, and impulse.

Even if you’re not particularly interested in subjects like SRC, you should still pay this website a visit. It’s good to know how well your DAW is handling your SRC.

PS: Check out the difference between Logic 8 Leopard and Logic 8 Tiger.

Need a Recall Sheet?

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

This site is anything but new, but I was linked to it a few months ago.

The site is Barry Rudolph’s personal/professional website. The major draw for me to this site was his extensive recall sheet database: I’m talking about printable sheets for just about any popular outboard gear.

While you may go for the recall sheets, I’d recommend reading some of Mr. Rudolph’s articles that he has written for Mix Magazine. While they’re all product reviews, they’re still worth reading. Especially if you’re looking for a specific piece of gear.

Check out the site here.
